John Cianchetti is a project associate in the Schmale Lab. He
is coordinating laboratory and field activities for a $1M USDA-NRI
project in collaboration with the Connecticut Ag Experiment Station and
Cornell University. John has been a key pilot for some recent UAV
sampling
missions. Originally from New York State, John earned his B.S. in Plant
Breeding and Genetics from Cornell University. He has over 10 years of
agricultural
experience ranging from university to private industry field research
and
management. He has assisted in research involving Phytophthora
infestans, Gibberella zeae, and Stagonospora
nodorum. John
has direct agronomic experience involving the production of wheat,
potatoes, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, and canola. He enjoys mountain
biking, fishing, home brewing, flying R/C planes, and hiking with his
dog Blueberry. John is interested in developing new ways to collect
biological threat agents with
UAVs.
