Weed Description: A perennial from
tuberous roots with lobed leaves and attractive blue flowers. Dwarf larkspur is
primarily found in or along the edges of woods, and is extremely poisonous to cattle.
Dwarf larkspur primarily occurs in the mountains and lower piedmont of Virginia,
North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Leaves: Leaves are lobed such that each lobe arises from a common point (palmately lobed). Leaves are approximately 3/4 to 6 inches wide, and are usually without hairs but are sometimes sparsely hairy. Stems: Stems are hairy and may reach 16 inches in height. Flowers: Each flower occurs on a flowering stalk that may be from 10 to 30 mm in length. Individual flowers are star-shaped and blue in color. Identifying Characteristics: Palmately divided leaves with blue, star-shaped flowers. |
