The Department of Plant Pathology, Physiology and Weed Science consists of 22 tenured or tenure track faculty at our Blacksburg location or one of five Agricultural Research Extension Centers in the Commonwealth. We support 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.
The Department of Plant Pathology, Physiology and Weed Science provides leadership in achieving the university and college goal of preeminence as a land grant university. We engage in innovative research in plant protection and productivity, provide world-class academic programs and training for students, and deliver solutions to agricultural problems to stakeholders.
Our mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge to the scientific community and public at large in our multiple disciplines. PPWS will provide leadership on issues related to understanding the basic functions of plants and their pathogens, mitigating the impact of biotic and abiotic plant stresses and developing practices for their management, exploring innovative uses for plants and plant products, and maintaining sustainability of agricultural and related ecosystems, natural resources and the environment.
